Hand-Arm & Whole-Body Vibration

Expert vibration assessments (HAVS & WBV) to protect your workforce from debilitating occupational conditions, comply with the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, and manage exposure risks across your operations.

WHAT IT IS

Comprehensive vibration risk management for workplace compliance

Prolonged exposure to hand-transmitted vibration from power tools can cause Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), a potentially irreversible condition (HAVS) and Vibration White Finger (VWF). Similarly, Whole-Body Vibration (WBV) from operating mobile plant or heavy machinery WBV can increase the risk of lower-back pain and other musculoskeletal problems.

Under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, employers are legally required to assess, manage, and reduce vibration exposure risks. We deliver precise, real-world tool and vehicle testing to keep your team safe and support compliance and effective management of vibration risk.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

On-Site Tool & Vehicle Testing

On-Site Tool & Vehicle Testing

Tri-axial accelerometer testing under real working conditions to measure actual vibration magnitude m/s² for tools (HAV) and machinery (WBV).

Daily Exposure (A(8)) Calculations

Quantifying individual daily vibration exposure levels A(8) against Exposure Action Values (EAV) and Exposure Limit Values (ELV), and HSE exposure points for hand-arm vibration only.

Control Strategy & Action Plan

Clear trigger-time limits, guidance on low-vibration tool selection, equipment maintenance advice, and health surveillance recommendations.

HOW WE WORK

Our assessment process

Equipment & Process Audit

We review your inventory of vibrating tools, machinery fleet, work practices, and operator schedules to establish a targeted assessment scope.

Physical On-Site Measurement

Our consultants measure real-world acceleration levels directly on tool handles and vehicle seats/floors using calibrated tri-axial meters.

Exposure & Risk Analysis

We calculate daily exposure values A(8) for each task, and HSE exposure points for hand-arm vibration only, identifying high-risk processes and operator overexposure.

Action Plan & Documentation

You receive an actionable compliance report detailing trigger times corresponding to the relevant exposure action and limit values, low-vibration tool recommendations, and control policies.

FAQs

Common questions

What are the legal action and limit values for HAVS and WBV?

For hand-arm vibration, the Exposure Action Value (EAV) is 2.5 m/s² A(8) (100 HSE points), and the Exposure Limit Value (ELV) is 5.0 m/s² A(8) (400 HSE points). For whole-body vibration, the EAV is 0.5 m/s² A(8), and the ELV is 1.15 m/s² A(8).

Manufacturer data may under- or over-estimate exposure and can be used where representative.

How do "trigger time" limits help protect workers?

Trigger time is the actual time an operator’s hands are in contact with a vibrating tool during a shift. Calculating trigger times corresponding to the relevant exposure action and limit values.

allows you to rotate tasks effectively and prevent workers from exceeding daily legal exposure limits.

No. Measurements are conducted while your operators perform their normal daily tasks. Our test equipment is lightweight, compact, and designed to attach quickly to equipment without interfering with work productivity.
